In a recent development, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Sen. Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, has deposed Chief Jelili Oyetunde Alao, a community head. Alao has also been strictly prohibited from using any symbols or items associated with his position.
The decision to depose Alao was conveyed through a letter dated 31st October, 2023, signed by the Secretary of the Olubadan Advisory Council, Mr. Kamorudeen Liasu. The letter cited the non-existence of the village and accused Alao of engaging in the unauthorized sale of family and others’ lands within the community.
Furthermore, Alao was alleged to have been involved in orchestrating the unlawful arrest of community members by the police, leading to tension and unrest among the residents. When summoned by the Oluyole Traditional Council to address the allegations, Alao failed to refute any of the charges. In light of this, the Council supported his removal in a letter dated 9th October, 2023, to preserve the esteemed reputation of the Olubadan institution.
