LAUTECH ASUU, JAC Summon Congress Over Gov. Makinde’s Position On Strike

Oyo Vanguard reports that both Academic Staff Union and Non Academic Staff Union of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso have summoned congress over the position of Governor Seyi Makinde on the ongoing strike.

The unions which had been on strike since last 4 months refused to resume academic activities despite the school management order late last month.

Governor Seyi Makinde, while featuring on a program today tagged “#EpadeGomina” monitored by Mouthpiece NGR correspondent, threatened to invoke the policy of No work, No Pay if the staff fail to pull out of strike.

According to him, “As of today, their subvention is being withhold. If they don’t go back to school, I won’t pay their subvention.”

“The students must know who to hold accountable. We expect 100 per cent cooperation but some want to play politics.

“We will only pay those who return to their duties. I don’t care whether it’s an election year. I will only do what is right till the last day of the tenure.”

Mouthpiece NGR gathered that the unions will hold separate congress in the school on Monday for a congressional decision on whether to pull out of the National strike or not.

When contacted, a member of the Joint Action Committee said there is need for a congress to iron out some issues.

He said the governor laid emphasis on some people trying to play politics with the strike, stressing that the congress will save the heads of its union leadership.
