Exclusive: Why Aggrieved Oyo PDP Aspirants Boycotted Screening Panel

A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party who belongs to the camp of the group opposed to Governor Seyi Makinde has revealed why he and other aspirants did not turn up for yesterday’s screening which was conducted by the committee sent from Abuja to screen aspirants seeking for positions at the state congress slated for this Saturday.

According to one of the party Chieftains, “How do you expect us to present ourselves before a committee that was set up without any prior notice?

“It was when the committee got to Ibadan that we heard what their mission was. They didn’t inform us ahead. Logically, we will never be part of such charade scam.”

“Look in 2017 when we had our congress, we held ours at Watershed while Engineer Seyi Makinde and Alhaja Mulika Akande, Engineer Femi Babalola, Alhaji Nureni Akanbi had theirs at Oke Ado School. I can tell you authoritatively that there was no panel set up by the leadership of the party from Abuja to screen aspirants from the two camps then. So, why such now?

“Let me tell you what they wanted to achieve, their aim is for the panel to disqualify us. But we outsmarted them.”

However, immediate past Youth Leader of the Party, Comrade Adekola Adeoye has assured his supporters that he will seek reelection in the forthcoming state congress noting that he could not jeopardize the future of the youth leaders in the 351 wards and those at the 33 Local Governments including thousands of youths in the party who he mobilized in 2019 for the electoral victory of the Governor.

He added that he decided to keep mute since April because he didn’t want to betray the trust the youths had in him.
