Bandits Have Not Invaded Major Towns in Oyo State — Oyo CP

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko has said there is no truth in the rumours making the rounds that armed bandits have invaded major towns in the state and the state’s capital city, Ibadan, to cause crises.

Onadeko said this while briefing newsmen on Thursday at the end of a patrol activity in major parts of the state in response to the alleged invasion of armed bandits in the state.

The CP also stated that the purpose of the patrol was to create awareness that the police’s first obligation was the protection of the lives and properties of Oyo state residents.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the police action began at the Command Headquarters in Eleyele and proceeded to Egbeda, Monatan, Akinyele, Moniya, Beere, Agodi-Gate, Olodo, and Iwo Road, and other locations.

The Police commissioner also noted that the police and other sister security agencies in the state, in collaboration with the local hunters and vigilante groups, are working to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.

She consequently called on residents of the state to only make available credible information for the police to act upon and warned that unfounded rumours would do nobody any good in society.

“Go about your normal businesses; even, the June 12 issue, the police, and other security agencies are working harmoniously together with non-state actors to ensure that the state is safe,” Onadeko said.
